Files Recover

My old desktop computer crashed and refused to turn on. So I went out and bought a HP Laptop. Also Bought one of those Hard Drive USB converters on Ebay for like $9. Hooked up the old Desktop Hard Drive to my Laptop’s USB port and it worked. Only when I opened the folder there were only like 19 files out of the 100s I had on my old computer. Is there any way I can buy a better converter that will extract all of my files i used to have. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S - The Hard drive was never damaged in any way

My computer just randomly deleted all my itunes’ files so all my music is stored on my ipod, the problem with that is my ipod has crashed once before and i had to reset it to factory settings and if that would happen again i just lost over 1000 songs. If there is anyone who can tell me how to get them back i would be very grateful
